Why the grout gap matters
Every tile occupies its own size plus the grout lines around it, so a 12-inch tile laid with a quarter-inch gap actually reserves 12.25 by 12.25 inches of floor. On a large wall that invisible border adds up to a real difference in tile count, which is why the gap is included in the per-tile coverage rather than ignored.
Choosing a waste allowance
Cutting always destroys some material: edges, corners, plumbing penetrations, and the occasional cracked tile. Straight layouts in square rooms usually get by with 10%; diagonal patterns and small rooms with many cuts often need 15% or more. Since the exact count is shown too, you can apply your own percentage judgment from either number.
常见问题
Are the tile dimensions in inches?
Yes — enter length and width of a single tile in inches, which is how most tile is labeled (12×12, 6×24, and so on). The area itself can be entered in feet or meters.
Does the estimate include thinset and grout bags?
No. Those depend on trowel size, tile thickness, and joint depth. As a rough guide, a 50-pound bag of thinset covers about 60–80 ft² of standard wall tile.
