How band and cup measurements combine
The band size is your underbust rounded to the nearest even number, since bands are made in even sizes. The cup letter comes from the gap between your bust and that band size: roughly one inch per letter, so a 3-inch difference is a C cup. Because the cup is relative to the band, a 34C holds more volume than a 32C — a fact that makes "sister sizes" (like 34C and 36B) worth trying when a band fits but the cup does not.
Signs the estimate needs adjusting
- A band that rides up means try one size smaller; one that digs in means go up or loosen the hooks.
- Cup spillover or wrinkled fabric suggests the cup letter, not the band, is off.
- Different styles and brands genuinely fit differently — treat the result as the middle of your range, not a verdict.
常见问题
Why is my calculated size different from store fittings?
Fitters use different rounding rules and measuring styles, and brands grade patterns differently. Sizes are estimates on purpose — use yours as a starting point and adjust by fit.
What is a sister size?
A neighboring band size with a compensating cup letter, such as 34C ↔ 36B. The cup volume stays similar while the band changes, which helps when a band size between even numbers would fit better.
