How weighted grades work
Most courses do not average your scores directly. Instead, the syllabus gives each category — homework, quizzes, midterms, the final — a weight that sums to 100%. Your course grade is the weighted average: each score times its weight, added up. That is why acing homework worth 10% cannot rescue a failing exam worth 50%. Enter each graded item with its weight to see where you truly stand.
Planning around the final exam
The calculator also reverses the question: given your current weighted average and the final's weight, it solves for the exam score that produces your target course grade. If the required score comes out negative, the target is already locked in no matter what happens on the exam. If it is over 100%, the math says the target is out of reach and it may be time to talk to your instructor.
Häufige Fragen
What if my graded work does not add up to 100%?
That is normal mid-semester — the remaining weight usually belongs to the final exam and ungraded work. The calculator treats the final exam as the rest of the course when it computes the score you need, and it warns you if your weights look inconsistent.
My teacher drops the lowest quiz. How do I enter that?
Drop it yourself before entering: delete the lowest quiz score from the list and divide its weight among the remaining quizzes, or recompute the quiz category average on paper and enter it as one line with the full category weight.
Can I use letter grades instead of percentages?
Convert them first using your school scale — a common one is A = 93–100, A− = 90–92, B+ = 87–89, and so on down to F below 60. The math works the same once everything is a percentage.
