Index vs. course handicap

Your handicap index measures potential ability on a standard fictional course with slope 113. Real courses are harder or easier, so the course handicap rescales the index by the tee's slope rating: index 12.5 from tees sloping 125 plays as about 14. A higher slope means the course plays tougher for higher-handicap players, so you receive more strokes.

What the target score means

Adding the course handicap to the course rating estimates the score of a golfer playing exactly to their ability from those tees. Shooting at or under that number in a counting round tends to lower your index; the handicap system's best-8-of-20 averaging means one great or terrible round moves it only gently.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Why is my course handicap different from my index?

Because the tees you are playing have a slope above or below 113. Tougher-than-average slopes add strokes; gentler ones subtract them.

Does this follow the World Handicap System?

The core conversion (index × slope ÷ 113) matches the WHS. Playing-condition calculations and daily course-rating adjustments are applied by your club’s software and are not modeled here.
