Working with UTC offsets

Every offset names how many hours a local clock runs ahead of or behind UTC. Converting is pure addition: take the source time, add the target offset, and subtract the source offset. When the arithmetic crosses midnight, the caption shows whether the answer falls on the next or previous calendar day — the detail that matters most when scheduling a call across the date line.

Daylight saving time caveat

Offsets here are fixed, but many zones change offset seasonally: New York runs UTC−5 in winter and UTC−4 in summer. Check the current offset for each zone before the conversion, and remember a handful of zones (India at +5:30, Nepal at +5:45) sit on half-hour offsets, which the half-step options cover.

자주 묻는 질문

Does this account for daylight saving time?

No — it converts between the exact offsets you choose. To handle DST, pick the offset the zone is currently using, for example UTC−4 for New York during summer and UTC−5 in winter.

What is the largest possible time difference?

Offsets span UTC−12 to UTC+14, so the widest gap is 26 hours. That means a time converted from UTC+14 to UTC−12 lands on the previous calendar day.
