Salariscalculator
The detailed guide below is currently available in English.
From gross pay to take-home
A salary offer is quoted in gross dollars, but several layers come out before the money hits your account. This calculator subtracts three of them: federal income tax (2025 brackets after the standard deduction), FICA — the 6.2% Social Security plus 1.45% Medicare payroll tax — and any state income tax at the rate you enter.
Choose your pay frequency to split the annual figures into per-paycheck amounts, which is how most people budget.
Why your real paycheck may differ
- Pre-tax benefits like 401(k) contributions, health insurance, and HSA deferrals reduce taxable income — this tool does not model them.
- FICA stops applying to Social Security above the annual wage base (about $176,100), so very high earners see slightly less than 7.65% on average.
- Withholding on your W-4 is an estimate that reconciles when you file, so per-paycheck tax rarely matches the true annual liability exactly.
Veelgestelde vragen
How do I convert salary to an hourly rate?
Use the Hourly tab in reverse logic: a $60,000 salary at 40 hours for 52 weeks works out to about $28.85 per hour gross. The calculator does the same arithmetic including taxes so you can compare a wage offer to your salary.
What is FICA?
The Federal Insurance Contributions Act tax: 6.2% of wages for Social Security up to the annual wage base, plus 1.45% for Medicare with no cap. Employees pay half; employers pay a matching half you never see.
Which filing status should I pick?
The one you expect to use on your next return. Married filing jointly uses wider brackets and a larger standard deduction, so it usually withholds less than single at the same income.
