How we build calculators

Each tool is built around standard, published formulas (for example, standard amortization math or the Mifflin-St Jeor equation) and is checked with automated tests before it ships. Where a result depends on assumptions — such as tax rules that change every year, or average inflation rates — we say so directly on the page.
