Why writers watch word counts
Different formats carry different expectations: a tight blog intro runs 40–80 words, a product description 100–200, and an opinion column roughly 700–900. Keeping an eye on the live counter helps you hit the target before editing, so trimming becomes a deliberate pass rather than a scramble. The sentence and paragraph tallies matter just as much online, where short paragraphs of two to four sentences read far more comfortably on a phone.
How reading and speaking times are estimated
The reading estimate divides your word count by 200 words per minute, a typical pace for quiet adult reading of everyday prose. The speaking estimate uses 130 words per minute, close to a natural presentation speed with room to breathe. Real figures vary with the material and the audience — dense technical text slows silent reading down, while a rehearsed speaker can land closer to 150 — so treat both numbers as planning guides, not stopwatches.

Preguntas frecuentes
How are words counted?
Any run of non-whitespace characters counts as one word, so "well-known" is one word and numbers or emoji count too. Spaces, tabs, and line breaks separate words but never add to the total.
What counts as a sentence or a paragraph?
Sentences are stretches of text ending in a period, question mark, or exclamation point, so a heading without punctuation is not counted as one. Paragraphs are blocks separated by a blank line; single line breaks inside a block do not start a new one.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser as you type — the text never leaves the page, and closing the tab clears it completely.
